Appalachian State University recently held its 12th annual iBackAPP Day of Giving, drawing contributions from over 3,100 supporters worldwide. This event, celebrated on March 6, saw donors from 45 states and six countries, amassing gifts to support nearly 300 university programs and initiatives.
App State Chancellor Heather Norris praised the widespread support, stating, “It’s wonderful to see so many people from across the country and around the world share their love and support for our university and the work we do to enrich lives throughout the state and beyond.”
The day was well-attended with celebration events across App State's campuses and other national venues. Will Sears, interim vice chancellor of university advancement, highlighted the impact of private contributions: “Private support plays a critical role in providing resources for everyone on our campuses, and gifts of all sizes make a difference.”
Key financial highlights include nearly $600,000 raised for student scholarships and about $865,000 for other program support needs. Faculty participation saw considerable growth, with contributions offering resources for research and classroom enhancement, as illustrated by Dr. Darci Gardner's SAFE Fund-supported research in Paris.
Participation by faculty and staff rose significantly with a 27% increase over last year, while student giving increased by 67%. The implementation of challenge gifts, exemplified by contributions from Peter and Joni Webb Petschauer, encouraged donor engagement, fulfilling 59 challenges in total.
App State alumni chapters organized 27 events, drawing more than 400 attendees and engaging in friendly donor competitions. Top-performing chapters were recognized.
Will Sears also noted the success and camaraderie of the event, saying, “This year’s iBackAPP Day was a tremendous success, and we want to offer a huge thank-you to everyone who participated.”
The iBackAPP campaign started in 2014 and emphasizes the university's community and transformative experiences. More details about their fundraising and academic programs can be found on their respective official websites.
