Appalachian State University has been recognized as a 2025–26 Military Friendly School by VIQTORY, maintaining this distinction for the 16th consecutive year. The university also secured a spot in the top 10 for the third year in a row, coming in at No. 7 in the category of large public schools.

The Military Friendly Schools list honors institutions that excel in supporting veterans transitioning from military to academic and civilian careers. In the fall of 2024, App State enrolled 1,403 military-affiliated students, comprising 262 veterans, 112 active-duty service members, 40 spouses, and 989 military dependents.

“Earning this distinction year after year speaks to App State’s strong culture of support for our military-affiliated students, who bring valuable perspectives and leadership to our campus community,” stated App State Chancellor Heather Norris. “We are proud to be recognized for our continued efforts to provide the resources, opportunities and support that help them succeed.”

The Military Friendly School designation was awarded after evaluating over 1,800 schools, using public data and responses from a survey. Every school was assessed based on specified criteria.

For the second consecutive year, App State was also designated a Military Spouse Friendly School, recognizing its commitment to aiding military families.

“Being named a Military Friendly School for the 16th year in a row reflects the care, intention and community that App State offers our military-connected students,” said Bethany Gonzalez, Associate Director of Military-Affiliated Services at App State Student Veteran Services. “We are focused on building a culture where veterans and their families are supported and equipped to succeed academically and personally.”

The 2025–26 Military Friendly Schools list will be featured in G.I. Jobs magazine and can also be accessed online.
