Today, Tim Walberg, the Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, criticized the Biden-Harris administration's recent decision on student loan forgiveness. According to Walberg, this action has raised the total cost of student loan-related spending by the administration to nearly $184 billion.
Walberg expressed his concerns in a statement: “After using billions of taxpayer dollars for its student loan schemes, the Biden-Harris administration is at it again,” he said. He further added that when the current administration took office, they immediately began implementing policies that lacked accountability and expected taxpayers to cover costs even if they had not attended college.
He emphasized that instead of these actions, efforts should have been directed towards addressing issues such as high student loan debt, low completion rates, and students being worse off financially after attending college than before.
“The courts, Congress, and the American people have recognized this illegal executive overreach for what it is – a ploy to buy votes," Walberg stated. He criticized the administration for allegedly disregarding legal norms in its final days by accelerating forgiveness measures.
