Today, the Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg announced the senior staff appointments for the 119th Congress. The announcement details key roles within the committee that will shape its direction and policy focus.
RJ Laukitis has been appointed as Staff Director. Laukitis is tasked with executing the committee's policy goals aimed at benefiting students, parents, workers, and job creators. He brings two decades of experience in the House, including a 14-year tenure as Senior Policy Advisor and Chief of Staff to Chairman Walberg.
Ali Watson will take on the role of Director of Member Services and Coalitions. Watson will collaborate with committee members, the Republican Conference, and stakeholders to support member priorities. Her previous experience includes serving as Senior Advisor to Chairman Walberg and roles at the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Mindy Barry steps into the position of General Counsel for the committee. She will provide advice on legislative, oversight, and legal issues. Barry's background includes roles such as Chief Oversight Counsel for the Judiciary Committee and work with other congressional offices.
Audra McGeorge is named Communications Director. Since joining the committee in 2019, McGeorge has led media strategies, notably during a House-wide antisemitism investigation. Her prior role was Communications Director for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Amy Jones continues her long-standing service on the committee as Director of Education and Human Services Policy. With nearly 20 years of experience under various chairmen, Jones advises on education and workforce development policies.
Joanna Brown assumes dual responsibilities as Policy Advisor for the committee and Deputy Chief of Staff for Chairman Walberg. Brown has been part of Walberg’s office since 2011, most recently serving as Legislative Director focusing on education and workforce policies.
The new team reflects a blend of continuity and expertise aimed at advancing the Education and Workforce Committee's objectives in Congress.
