Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, in collaboration with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, has announced a special event to honor Vietnam-era veterans residing in North Carolina's 5th Congressional District. The Vietnam War 50th Commemoration Pinning Ceremony will take place on Veterans Day, November 10, 2023, at VFW Post 4286 in Newland.
All Vietnam War-era veterans who served in the armed forces between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, are eligible to participate in the ceremony and receive a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin. This commemorative pin is a symbol of gratitude and recognition for the veterans' service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
Congresswoman Foxx, who has a personal connection to the military through her family, expressed her deep appreciation for those who have protected the nation and its citizens. She stated, "My father and uncles were World War II veterans, my brother served in Vietnam, and I am very appreciative of the sacrifices made to protect this great country and its citizens." Rep. Foxx emphasized that repaying the debt owed to military personnel and veterans is one of her top priorities in Congress.
To participate in the pinning ceremony and be officially recognized, interested veterans must complete and return an application form available on Congresswoman Foxx's website, Foxx.House.Gov. Additionally, a copy of the veteran's DD-214 should be submitted to the Congresswoman's Boone District Office no later than November 3rd, 2023. For those who require a copy of their DD-214, the Congresswoman's district staff can assist with the request before the event.
For further information or any inquiries regarding the ceremony, Audrey Bishop from the Boone District Office can be contacted at 828-265-0240 or Audrey.Bishop@mail.house.gov. The VFW Post 4286, the venue for the event, is located at 3139 Millers Gap Hwy, Newland, NC 28657.
The Vietnam War 50th Commemoration Pinning Ceremony aims to provide the recognition and official welcome home that Vietnam War veterans never received. It serves as a small token of appreciation for their bravery and dedication to the nation. As the nation prepares to honor its heroes on Veterans Day, this event organized by Congresswoman Virginia Foxx stands as a testament to the enduring gratitude owed to those who served during the Vietnam War.
