Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg has expressed his views on the White House's recent actions concerning Columbia University. The Education Department plans to review the university's taxpayer funding due to an ongoing investigation into antisemitism on its campus.
Chairman Walberg stated, "Antisemitism has infected colleges and universities across this country – and pro-terrorist mobs have been verbally and physically harassing students. At universities like Columbia, Jewish students are barred from getting to their classes or using university facilities."
He further noted that despite promises made by Columbia University's leaders to address antisemitism, the institution has not fulfilled its commitments. "For more than a year, Columbia’s leaders have made public and private promises to Jewish students, faculty, and Members of Congress that the university would take the steps necessary to combat the rampant antisemitism on Columbia’s campus. Columbia has failed to uphold its commitments, and this is unacceptable," he said.
Walberg emphasized the committee's dedication to addressing this issue alongside support from the Trump administration. He remarked, "The Committee has been working hard on this issue and finally has a strong ally in the White House. The Trump administration has been clear: there is no place for antisemitism on American campuses. And the Committee looks forward to working alongside this administration to carry out this mission."
