FOIA Request to Mitchell County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at High Country Times have submitted a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. The request was made with the intention of obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.
The requested information includes the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, along with the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. We also asked for details about each candidate's party affiliation.
In addition to this, we sought all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. As such, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
