FOIA Request Sent to Alleghany County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Alleghany County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at High Country Times have sent a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., to the Alleghany County Election Department.

The request specifically seeks access to pre-election test reports for voting machines used in the county's elections. The requested documents are expected to provide details such as the date of testing, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed the test).

These records are crucial for us in our role as journalists, allowing us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the Alleghany County Election Department regarding this request.
