FOIA Request to Watauga County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.
In our continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at High Country Times have submitted a request for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.
Our request is specifically targeted towards obtaining the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county's elections. We have asked for these reports to be provided in a PDF format with specific fields including the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed the test).
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await the response from the Watauga County Election Department and will continue our pursuit of transparency in local government affairs.
