Appalachian State University will conduct a test of its Boone campus siren warning system on April 2 at 11:55 a.m. The university's Emergency Preparedness website offers examples of the tones used during emergencies or tests.
The emergency tone is a hi/low sound, while the discontinuous air horn indicates a test. An alert tone signals an all-clear. The siren is activated for immediate threats such as an active shooter or tornado warning.
The AppState-ALERT system provides voice, text, and email notifications for the Boone and Hickory campuses. Students and employees can register for these alerts through their AppalNET account.
Monthly tests of the Boone campus sirens occur on the first Wednesday. For more details on AppState-ALERT, visit the university's Emergency Preparedness website.
Appalachian State University is part of the University of North Carolina System and enrolls over 21,000 students across its Boone and Hickory campuses, offering numerous undergraduate and graduate programs.
