The Education and the Workforce Committee recently released a report titled "Antisemitism on College Campuses Exposed," which highlights the failure of universities to protect their Jewish communities. The report accuses university administrators of neglecting their responsibilities in addressing antisemitism.
Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, who contributed an op-ed to the New York Post, criticized the decision-making processes at American universities following the October 7 terror attack on Israel. She argued that these institutions prioritized public relations over student safety.
Foxx expressed concern about university leaders treating antisemitism as a public relations issue rather than a threat to Jewish students' well-being. She cited instances where administrators failed to label certain slogans as antisemitic, despite acknowledging their harmful implications. Foxx stated, "The notion that antisemitic conduct may go unchallenged because those in authority were unwilling to pursue disciplinary action is deeply offensive."
She also highlighted examples of internal bias among university leaders and criticized their reluctance to take decisive action against antisemitism. Foxx warned universities like Harvard, Columbia, Northwestern, and UCLA that they are under congressional scrutiny for failing to address these issues effectively.
In her op-ed, Foxx concluded by stating that universities are not beyond congressional action if they continue to neglect their duties regarding antisemitism on campuses.
