WASHINGTON – House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) strongly criticized the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) final rule aimed at implementing nutrition standards for school meal plans nationwide. Foxx expressed her concerns regarding the unrealistic standards proposed by the USDA, stating that they ignore the input of stakeholders and fail to uphold the nutritional quality that students deserve in their meals.
Foxx lambasted the USDA, stating, "Beltway bureaucrats at the USDA think they know best when it comes to mandating what students can and cannot eat. Rather than respecting the decades of work undertaken by school nutritionists and local professionals, the Department still wants to push regulations that run counter to the nutritional quality that students deserve in their meals."
In further criticism of the USDA's final rule, Foxx remarked, "The proof is in the pudding – though if you asked the Department, it would want to regulate that out of existence too."
The USDA's final rule on school nutrition standards has sparked controversy and opposition from various stakeholders, with Foxx being among those vocal in her disapproval of the regulations.
