Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) criticized the Department of Labor’s final overtime rule, stating, “Any way you cut it, Biden’s overtime rule is a bad deal for American employers and workers." Foxx highlighted the financial burden the rule would impose on various industries, leading to layoffs and undermining workers' financial security and workplace flexibility. She expressed concern about the departure from the Trump administration's overtime policy, warning that it would create chaos and confusion.
Foxx emphasized the negative impact of the proposed rule on businesses, stating, "No business owner running on tight margins in Biden’s economy will tell you that excessive and heavy-handed regulations from the federal government are the answer." She questioned the administration's motives behind the rule, stating, "If the administration’s goal with this rule is to improve the standard of living for workers, then it’s failing miserably." Foxx concluded by accusing President Biden of governing through executive decree.
The Chairwoman's opposition to the overtime rule was evident in her actions, including sending letters and urging the Department to withdraw the proposal. Additionally, a hearing titled "Bad for Business: DOL's Proposed Overtime Rule" was held by the Workforce Protections Subcommittee Chairman Kiley in response to the Department of Labor’s actions.
