Owens, Wilson to Hold Hearing on Ramifications of ED’s FAFSA Failure

WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, April 10, at 10:15 a.m., the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development will hold a hearing titled: "FAFSA Fail: Examining the Impact on Students, Families, and Schools."

Chairman Burgess Owens (R-UT) expressed concerns about the FAFSA rollout, citing "poor communication, negligence, and incompetence" that have negatively affected the university system. He highlighted the impact of FAFSA delays on students, stating that it has left many in limbo without access to necessary guidance or assistance. Owens emphasized the need to address the consequences of the FAFSA failure on various stakeholders during the upcoming hearing.

Ranking Member Frederica Wilson (D-FL) echoed Owens' sentiments, emphasizing the importance of a seamless FAFSA process for students navigating the college application journey. Wilson stressed the need for administrators to ensure effective execution of education policies and expressed eagerness to hear from witnesses during the hearing. She emphasized the urgency of removing obstacles that hinder student access to education.

The Subcommittee hearing, scheduled for April 10, 2024, will delve into the implications of the FAFSA failure on students, families, and colleges. The event will take place at 10:15 a.m. in the 2175 Rayburn House Office Building and will be open to the press, with live-streaming available on the Committee's YouTube page.
