Town of Boone Fire Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

Requirements: North Carolina Firefighter certification & EMT-Basic. Must establish residency in Watauga County or any adjoining county. Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, Wilkes or Johnson County, TN.

Firefighter Base Salary: $46,329Health Ins., Retirement, 401k Contribution, & Other Benefits: $22,160Total Compensation: $68,489(This does not include scheduled overtime for dedicated off-shift training and annual longevity bonus)

Being a firefighter in Boone offers a wide range of opportunities and experiences! -  Fast-growing town that is ranked the 6th most densely populated city in NC with a large University campus and many mid-rise buildings.- 30+ square miles of Rural Fire District surrounding the city that offers Wildland Urban Interface, Mountain Search & Rescue, and Rural Water Supply.- Emergency Medical Response- Heavy Rescue Truck with a Technical Rescue Trailer & Water Rescue Trailer.- Hazardous Materials Trailer- Drone Operations Team- Modified 24/48 schedule with 4-day weekend every 3 weeks- Growing department and room for career advancement

Off-Duty: Boone and the surrounding High Country has limitless family & outdoor activities. This includes hundreds of miles of hiking trails and streams for fishing. Rivers for kayaking and plenty of rock-climbing spots. For the winter, Boone offers 3 ski resorts within a 30-minute drive. The area also offers tons of festivals and events year-round!
