County of Alleghany issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.
Alleghany County is currently accepting applications for a Public Works maintenance worker. An employee in this class performs a wide variety of vehicle, building and grounds maintenance plus repair activities including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, masonry, mechanical, landscaping, and carpentry. Employee is also responsible for enforcing ordinances related to the control and treatment of animals for animal control.
Work requires significant independence and initiative and a significant knowledge of and skill in trade practices. The employee is subject to hazards in the work including exposures to vibrations, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils. The worker is also subject to work in close quarters such as crawl spaces and small rooms. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed for lasting quality, appearance and functionality through conference, inspection, and records. Education & Experience: Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in trade skills and considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license. Successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment drug testing, criminal background check and DMV driving record check. Will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing for duration of employment.
Starting salary is $28,747. Following a 6-month successful probationary period, salary will be $30,184. Full time benefits include county provided health and life insurance, holiday, sick and vacation pay plus retirement participation in the NC Local Government Retirement System. Applications will be accepted until Friday, February 11, 2022, at 5 PM in the Alleghany County Human Resources Office.
