A Republican lawmaker said that the Court of Appeal's decision to overturn a previous ruling about voter identification and capping income taxes was "great news for election integrity and lower taxes."
Rep. Sarah Stevens (R-Alleghany) made the comments on Sept. 15 on her Facebook page and also said cited a post on House Speaker Tim Moore's (R-Cleveland) website saying the appeals court reversed "activist judges" ruling on banning voter identification laws.
"A state Court of Appeals panel overturned a lower court ruling on [Sept. 15] that blocked constitutional amendments implementing a lower maximum income tax rate and Voter ID," Stevens said in her post. "The people of North Carolina voted for these amendments to the NC Constitution in 2018."
The appeals court said ruled that providing photo identification when voting is allowed and upheld a vote that set the maximum income tax the state can impose at 7%. North Carolina voters approved both initiatives.
