Avery County unofficial results of Primary Election 2020

The results for Avery County elections 2020 came in – some showed easy wins, some ran short with narrow margins.

The Clerk of Superior Court race was won by Teresa Benfield, while Tim Philips, Woodie Young Jr. and Martha Hicks won the three seats of county commissioners.

The three seats in the non-partisan Board of Education were won by Ruth Shirley, Kathey Aldridge, John Greene with the latter two currently holding the office. Shirley led the contest with 3,160 votes. Aldridge got 2,542 votes with Greene closely following with 2,379 votes. The other contestants were Derrick Calloway with 1,148 votes, Jennifer Jennings with 1,078 votes and Steven Wilson with 653 votes, according to HC Press.

The contestants who have won the primary election for Board of Education will be elected to the office without having to contest in the general elections that are to be held on Nov. 3. However, the contestants contesting for the seats of County Commissioners, Clerk of the Superior Court and similar county seats will have to contest the general elections in November.
