Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, North Carolina, has adopted the Fujifilm CAD EYE system to enhance polyp detection during colonoscopy procedures. This advanced artificial intelligence technology assists endoscopists by identifying potential polyps, including flat lesions and those at the peripheral edges of the endoscopic view. The hospital is the first in North Carolina to implement this system.

Brian Yates, CEO of Ashe Memorial Hospital, stated, "We are excited to be able to bring this cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to Ashe Memorial Hospital and continue to further enhance our level of surgical care." He emphasized that early detection of precancerous lesions can lead to timely intervention and better patient outcomes.

The CAD EYE system alerts endoscopists with a sound if a suspicious polyp is detected and highlights the area with a bracketed box. According to FDA studies, CAD EYE can detect polyps up to 17 percent more effectively than traditional methods. Dr. Charles Jones, a general surgeon at Ashe Memorial Hospital, noted, "This new technology comes with an artificial intelligence upgrade that helps the endoscopist potentially find more polyps."

The system received FDA approval in March 2024. Following approval, Dr. Jones initiated efforts to acquire it for the hospital. The Board of Trustees approved the purchase in October 2024, and Dr. Jones began using it in November.

Tai Fujita from FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation commented on their commitment to innovation: "CAD EYE reflects Fujifilm’s commitment to innovation and represents a transformative advancement in endoscopic technology."

Dr. Jones also highlighted the hospital's proactive approach: "Our Board of Trustees Committee has been very receptive to bringing new technology to the community."

In addition to CAD EYE, Ashe Memorial Hospital's endoscopy suite offers various advanced procedures and technologies like LINX for GERD treatment and Bravo Monitoring for reflux symptoms.
