Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx issued a statement on the anniversary of Hamas' attack on October 7, marking one year since the event. The attack has been associated with an increase in antisemitism at educational institutions across the United States, leading to harassment and violence against Jewish communities.

"October 7th marks a day of profound tragedy for the State of Israel and Jewish people around the world," Foxx stated. She emphasized that this day left a significant impact on schools in the U.S., highlighting incidents where professors and students allegedly celebrated acts of violence against civilians in Israel. Foxx also mentioned K-12 student walkouts that included harmful rhetoric.

Foxx criticized school leadership for allowing antisemitism to spread unchecked. "The so-called leadership at schools bears ultimate responsibility for allowing and enabling the cancer of antisemitism to spread unchecked," she said. She stressed that while some damage may be irreversible, accountability is essential.

The Committee's focus remains on ensuring Jewish students receive equal rights and protections as their peers. "The law guarantees them the same rights and protections as their peers, and we will not waver until every academic institution in America upholds that promise," Foxx concluded.
