Washington – Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) has called for the presidents of Yale, UCLA, and Michigan to appear before the Committee on Education and the Workforce to address the issue of antisemitism on college campuses. The hearing, titled "Calling for Accountability: Stopping Antisemitic College Chaos," is scheduled for May 23 at 10:15 a.m.
Foxx stated, "The Committee has a clear message for mealy-mouthed, spineless college leaders: Congress will not tolerate your dereliction of your duty to your Jewish students." She emphasized the need for accountability in addressing incidents of antisemitism on campuses, saying, "No stone must go unturned while buildings are being defaced, campus greens are being captured, or graduations are being ruined."
According to Foxx, college campuses should not be places for "playacting juveniles" or "battlegrounds for radical activists." She warned that actions have consequences and that everyone affiliated with these universities will face the reality of their actions.
The invited witnesses for the hearing include Dr. Peter Salovey, President of Yale University; Dr. Gene Block, Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles; and Dr. Santa Ono, President of the University of Michigan. The hearing, to be held at 2175 Rayburn House Office Building, will be live-streamed on the Committee's YouTube page.
Credentialed media planning to cover the hearing are required to RSVP to Nick.Barley@mail.house.gov.
