WASHINGTON – Secretary Miguel Cardona is set to testify on Tuesday, May 7, at 10:15 a.m. before the Committee on Education and the Workforce, chaired by Virginia Foxx (R-NC). The hearing is titled “Examining the Education Department’s Policies, Priorities, and FY 2023 Financial Audit Failure.”

Chairwoman Virginia Foxx expressed her disappointment in Secretary Cardona's leadership, stating, "I’m greatly disappointed by Secretary Cardona’s leadership of the Department of Education and his willingness to toe the line for the Biden administration’s disdain for the Constitution." Foxx highlighted various issues under Cardona's leadership, including the Department's handling of the President’s 'free' college agenda, FAFSA rollout, changes to Title IX, and the failure to address antisemitism and foreign influence.

Foxx further criticized Cardona for the Department's financial audit failures in fiscal years 2022 and 2023, despite requesting billions more in taxpayer dollars. She emphasized the need for accountability, stating, "Taxpayers have reached their limit, Mr. Secretary. This hearing gives the Committee an opportunity to hold Secretary Cardona accountable for his partisan agenda and regulatory overreach."

The upcoming full committee hearing is an opportunity for Secretary Cardona to address these concerns and provide explanations for the Department's actions. The meeting, scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, will take place at 2175 Rayburn House Office Building and will be open to the press, as well as live-streamed on the Committee's YouTube page.
