Virginia Foxx, a U.S. Representative, used her social media platform on September 30, 2025, to criticize proposals related to federal spending and the ongoing debate over a potential government shutdown.

In a post published at 01:18 UTC, Foxx wrote, “You want to increase the debt by $1.5 trillion to give illegals health care. You’re not fighting for Americans.”

Later that day at 01:49 UTC, she addressed accusations about which party would be responsible for a possible government shutdown: “Those who claim Republicans will be the ones responsible for a government shutdown are lying through their teeth. Exhibit A:”

At 01:53 UTC, Foxx followed up with another post referencing individuals she claims supported a shutdown: “Oh look, it’s everyone who voted for a government shutdown in one photo. The Shutdown Selfie.”

Foxx has served as the representative for North Carolina’s 5th congressional district for several terms. She has consistently won re-election since 2014, including victories over Chuck Hubbard in 2024 (59.5% to 40.5%), Kyle Parrish in 2022 (63.15% to 36.85%), David Brown in 2020 (66.9% to 31.1%), Denise D. Adams in 2018 (57% to 43%), Josh Brannon in both 2016 (58.4% to 41.6%) and 2014 (61% to 39%).
