Virginia Foxx, a U.S. Representative from North Carolina, used her social media platform on October 31, 2025, to criticize Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown and funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

In a brief statement posted at midnight, Foxx wrote: “Open the government. Stop the Democrat lies.” (October 31, 2025).

Later that night, she expanded on her critique regarding SNAP funding: “Have you noticed how Democrats keep blaming Republicans for SNAP not being funded? Who voted 14 times to fund the government and fund SNAP? Republicans. Who has pitched a hissy fit and refused to vote 14 times in a row to reopen the government and fund SNAP? Democrats. Facts” (October 31, 2025).

Foxx further questioned Democratic actions with another post: “How many times did Democrats vote against the CR that would fund SNAP? 14 times.” (October 31, 2025).

Virginia Foxx has served multiple terms in Congress and consistently secured reelection victories over various opponents since at least 2014. In her most recent race in 2024, she won against Chuck Hubbard with nearly 60% of the vote. Previous election cycles also saw her defeating challengers such as Kyle Parrish in 2022 and David Brown in 2020 by significant margins.
