Virginia Foxx, U.S. Representative from North Carolina, posted a series of statements on her X (formerly Twitter) account in early October 2025 regarding the federal government shutdown and assigning blame to Democratic leadership.
On October 6, 2025, Foxx wrote: “Democrats shut the government down. It was true yesterday. It’s true today. It will be true tomorrow. You own this, Chuck.”
The following day, she published a brief message: “Ahem…” (October 7, 2025).
Later on October 7, Foxx elaborated further with another post: “You can buy this hand mirror on Amazon for $10. Once it gets delivered, take a long look into it – you’ll see who’s responsible for the shutdown. Here’s a hint: it’s not Republicans.”
Foxx has represented North Carolina’s 5th congressional district since 2005 and has consistently won re-election by significant margins over multiple election cycles. In the most recent general election in 2024, she defeated Chuck Hubbard with approximately 59.5% of the vote to Hubbard’s 40.5%. In previous years—2022 against Kyle Parrish, 2020 against David Brown, and other contests—she similarly secured decisive victories.
Her comments come amid heightened partisan debate over responsibility for ongoing government funding lapses.
