Ashe Memorial Hospital and the AMH Foundation will host the High Country Bras fundraiser on Saturday, April 12, at Jefferson Landing Club in Jefferson, N.C. The event is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. and aims to raise awareness about breast cancer screenings while generating funds for the Ashe Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Women in Touch Fund.
Last year, this event raised $18,430 to support screening mammograms for uninsured women residing in Ashe County. Becky Pearson, AMH Foundation director, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “The Women in Touch Fund takes the worry out of the equation for women who do not have health insurance and are unable to pay for their annual screening mammogram.”
The evening will feature dinner, an art bra fashion show, and an auction. Tickets are priced at $75 per person or $800 for a table of eight. They can be purchased online or by calling 336-846-0785 until March 28.
Local artists and community members are invited to create art using bras as canvases with a $20 donation fee. These creations will be displayed at Becky & Co. before the event, where attendees can vote on their favorites. Winners will be announced during the fundraiser.
Breast cancer survivors will model these decorative bras over plain black dresses or T-shirts during the fashion show portion of the evening. The designs will then be auctioned off to benefit the Women in Touch Fund.
Ashe Memorial Hospital has performed more than 12,000 mammograms over five years using advanced technology such as 3D mammography equipment. JoAnn Smith, chief nursing officer at Ashe Memorial Hospital stated: “Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women,” highlighting that early detection through screening significantly improves treatment outcomes.
