Today, Speaker Johnson and House GOP Leadership, along with several committee chairs, presented findings from a seven-month investigation into antisemitism on American college campuses. This effort was initiated in response to increased campus antisemitism following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas.
Speaker Johnson emphasized the importance of addressing anti-Jewish hate: “Over the past seven months, these committees have done important work. They’ve heard from government agencies, students, and universities, and did a deep dive into the ways we can stop anti-Jewish hate. It’s our intent to take this report, its recommendations, and act.”
Chairwoman Foxx highlighted accountability as key to reversing the negative reputations of institutions affected by antisemitic incidents: "Stopping that free fall comes down to one word: accountability."
Chairman Jordan criticized the Biden Administration's handling of visa holders allegedly involved in law violations: "The Committee’s investigation uncovered that the Biden Administration was unwilling to hold these foreign nationals accountable."
Chairman Comer shared his firsthand experience with antisemitic activities at George Washington University and stressed ongoing Republican efforts against antisemitism: “House Republicans will continue to be a stalwart against the disease of antisemitism.”
Chairman Smith discussed tax-exempt organizations' roles in funding terrorism and mentioned legislative actions taken by Congress: "We must stop this abuse of our tax code that is funding terrorism around the world."
Chairman Bost expressed concerns about discrimination faced by Jewish veterans under current administration policies: “I am proud to join my House Republican colleagues in standing up for religious freedom.”
Subcommittee Chairman Griffith pointed out failures within NIH-funded institutions regarding antisemitic behavior: "This failure is unacceptable."
Majority Leader Scalise called for stronger measures against campus antisemitism under future administrations: “With President Trump at the helm...we will ensure these universities get back to what they are supposed to do – teach.”
Whip Emmer praised committee chairs for their accountability efforts concerning university environments.
Conference Vice Chair Moore emphasized that combating antisemitism remains an ongoing battle.
The report outlines key findings including universities’ failures to address antisemitism effectively. It also provides 11 recommendations for universities, the Executive Branch, and Congress aimed at tackling these issues.
