Tomorrow, the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development will convene to examine AmeriCorps' audit performance. The hearing, led by Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT), is titled “Examining the Policies and Priorities of AmeriCorps and Its FY 2024 Audit Failure.” It is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. at the Rayburn House Office Building.

Chairman Owens expressed concerns about AmeriCorps' operations, stating, “AmeriCorps is a prime example of the federal government’s inefficiency. It has failed eight audits in a row, and yet the Biden-Harris administration wants to expand its mission to include ‘environmental justice’ and up its budget to boot.”

The session aims to address these issues as Owens remarked on potential future considerations under President-elect Trump’s administration: “This hearing will lay out the facts and make it clear why AmeriCorps should be at the top of DOGE’s list for consideration once President-elect Trump is back in the White House.”

Scheduled witnesses include Michael D. Smith, Chief Executive Officer of AmeriCorps, and Stephen Ravas, Acting Inspector General from the Office of the Inspector General at AmeriCorps.

The hearing will be accessible to media representatives and streamed live on the Committee's YouTube channel.
