Appalachian State University will conduct a test of its Boone campus siren warning system at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The university's Emergency Preparedness website provides examples of the tones used during emergencies and tests.

The hi/low tone is designated for emergencies, the discontinuous air horn is used for system tests, and the alert tone signals an all-clear. The siren will only be activated for immediate, ongoing, or significant threats to campus, such as an active shooter or a tornado warning.

The AppState-ALERT system includes voice, text, and email notifications for both the Boone and Hickory campuses. Students and employees are encouraged to register for these alerts through their AppalNET accounts.

Campus siren tests in Boone are typically conducted on the first Wednesday of each month.

As stated by Appalachian State University: "As a premier public institution, Appalachian State University prepares students to lead purposeful lives." The university is part of the University of North Carolina System and enrolls over 21,000 students across its Boone and Hickory campuses and online programs.

For more information about the AppState-ALERT system, visit App State’s Emergency Preparedness website.
