On May 23, at 9:45 a.m., the Committee on Education and the Workforce, under the chairmanship of Virginia Foxx (R-NC), will conduct a full committee hearing with the presidents of Northwestern, Rutgers, and UCLA. The hearing is titled "Calling for Accountability: Stopping Antisemitic College Chaos."
Chairwoman Foxx conveyed a stern message to college leaders, stating, “The Committee has a clear message for mealy-mouthed, spineless college leaders: Congress will not tolerate your dereliction of your duty to your Jewish students.” She emphasized that no incident should be overlooked while university buildings are being defaced or graduations are being disrupted. She further added that colleges are not playgrounds for immature individuals or battlefields for radical activists. She asserted that everyone associated with these universities will understand that actions have consequences.
The hearing is scheduled from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, and will take place at the 2175 Rayburn House Office Building.
The majority witnesses include Mr. Michael Schill, President of Northwestern University; Dr. Gene Block, Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles; and Dr. Jonathan Holloway, President of Rutgers University.
Media representatives planning to cover the hearing must RSVP to Nick.Barley@mail.house.gov. The hearing will also be live-streamed on the Committee's YouTube page.
