Today, Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Chairwoman of the Education and the Workforce Committee, took to the House Floor to acknowledge National Charter Schools Week.
In her remarks, Chairwoman Foxx stated, "This week we celebrate and recognize the impact of the 8,000 public charter schools across the country. Charter schools offer students and their families a crucial alternative to the one-size-fits-all education model."
She went on to note that approximately 4 million students benefit from charter school education, with 60 percent of these students hailing from low-income communities.
Foxx also cited a recent study as evidence of charter schools' effectiveness. According to this research, charter school students gain an additional 16 days of learning in reading and six days in math per year compared to their peers in traditional public schools.
Foxx concluded her speech by expressing gratitude towards advocates working towards expanding charter school access. She said, "Thank you to all the advocates across the country who are working tirelessly to expand charter school access. Your work is vital for the parents who desire more options and for the students who are now able to learn in an environment best suited to their individual goals and needs.”
