COUNTY OF WILKES: Notice of Public Hearing - Room Occupancy Tax

County of Wilkes issued the following announcement on July 11.

Please take notice that the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners (hereinafter the “Board of Commissioners”), pursuant to N.C. General Statutes §153A-155, will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., with the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners to immediately follow, in the Commissioners’ Room at the Wilkes County Office Building, 110 North Street, Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to receive public comment with respect to the Board of Commissioners’ consideration of a resolution levying a room occupancy tax of up to six percent (6%) under the authority conferred by North Carolina Session Law 2010- 78 as enacted by the North Carolina General Assembly effective July 9, 2010.

Under said statute, the Board of Commissioners is established as the governing body of “Wilkes County District K,” a special taxing district consisting of that part of Wilkes County which is located outside of the incorporated areas within the County, and is authorized to adopt a resolution levying a room occupancy tax in District K.

Should the Board of Commissioners adopt a resolution levying said tax, the same will apply to the gross receipts derived from the rental of any room, lodging, or accommodation furnished by a hotel, motel, inn, tourist camp, or similar place within District K that is subject to the sales tax imposed by the State of North Carolina under N.C. General Statutes §105-164.4(a)(3), and will be effective on the first day of the second calendar month after the date the resolution is adopted.

Those wishing to be heard in this matter should appear at the time and place indicated above.
