House subcommittee to hold hearing on reading and math instruction

The Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education will convene a hearing titled “Foundations First: Reclaiming Reading and Math through Proven Instruction” on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The session is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. in Room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), who chairs the subcommittee, will oversee the proceedings. The hearing aims to address methods for improving reading and math education through evidence-based instruction.

Testimony will be provided by Dr. Cade Brumley, State Superintendent of Education from Louisiana; Ms. Chandra Roughton, Founder of Luminous Minds; Dr. Jhanae Wingfield, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood and Literacy Education at Rutgers University-Newark; and Dr. Brent Harrison, Superintendent of Saraland City Schools.

The event is open to members of the press and will also be available via live stream on the Committee’s YouTube page.
