House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) has expressed support for the Department of Education’s decision to open an investigation into reports of antisemitic harassment at Haverford College.
In a statement released on August 20, 2025, Walberg referenced testimony from Haverford’s president during a committee hearing in May. He said the college president did not provide clear actions the school was taking to protect Jewish students or address antisemitism on campus.
“I applaud the Trump administration’s decision to investigate antisemitic harassment and discrimination at Haverford. During the Committee’s hearing in May, Haverford’s president refused to provide any tangible steps the school was taking to protect Jewish students and address antisemitism. Her testimony underscored the grave failures of college and university leaders who allow antisemitism to run rampant on their campuses in direct violation of the law. From posters quoting the Hamas Charter to Jewish students being ostracized – we know Haverford has an antisemitism problem. It is unacceptable. Antisemitism has no place in our schools. The Trump administration is right to hold colleges and universities accountable for their failures, and I remain committed to working with the Department of Education to protect Jewish students,” Walberg stated.
The Department of Education will review allegations that include reports of hostile incidents such as posters referencing controversial material and claims that Jewish students have been isolated by peers at Haverford College.
