WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 27, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra’s threat to withhold Medicaid funding from states that rejected sex reassignment surgeries and the use of puberty blockers on minors:

“Secretary Becerra’s rogue public comments about blackmailing the American people with their own tax dollars are beyond the pale – not to mention his threat to undermine the will of electorates across our nation for not siding with this administration’s radical agenda to redefine sex and gender. These threats are nothing more than another brazen attempt to subvert the will of parents – the men and women who the Biden administration fears most.

“Federal bureaucrats are drunk on power, and their disillusionment leads them to genuinely believe that they can operate with absolute impunity. Make no mistake, deliberately blackmailing Americans with their own tax dollars is a damning new low. It’s no wonder the American people are downright enraged at the federal government’s continued crusade to intrude in their lives.”
