County of Alleghany issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.

Although the projected track has changed eastward somewhat, per the NWS there remains a threat of flooding and gusty winds: The following is a briefing from the NWS Blacksburg office as of  Friday, September 30, 2022.

Overview:  The remnants of Ian look to arrive today as rain spreads from southeast to northwest across the region.   

Threats:  

• Flash flooding and flooding of small streams and creeks, urban and poor drainage areas is possible.

• Strong, gusty wind

Location:  The entire area may see heavy rainfall and gusty wind. The greatest threat is at higher elevations. 

Timing:   This afternoon through Saturday 

Impacts:   Small creeks and streams, as well as low lying or urban/poor drainage areas may flood resulting in impassable roads.  Gusty winds may bring down trees or limbs. Isolated power outages are also possible.

Forecast Challenges:  Duration of rainfall into Monday night may prolong the threat of flooding into Sunday and Monday.
