Today, Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) addressed the effects of the ongoing government shutdown on jobs data. He criticized Democrats for their role in the situation.
“Over the course of this administration, President Trump’s pro-growth policies have consistently connected American workers with good jobs. Unfortunately, Democrats refused to work with Republicans and the Trump administration to help more Americans chase the American Dream. In fact, the Democrat-demanded shutdown is disrupting critical federal functions and directly undermining the release of timely jobs data. Without reliable reporting, businesses, workers, and policymakers are left in the dark—creating uncertainty in the labor market, slowing investment, and threatening economic stability.
“Yet Democrats’ stonewalling doesn’t just impact job numbers. The threat of a prolonged government shutdown is creating uncertainty for every American worker and job creator,” Walberg said.
The disruption caused by delays in official employment statistics may affect decision-making for both employers and employees across sectors.
