Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, North Carolina, has appointed Aaron Glenn, RN, MSN, as its new Chief Nursing Officer. Glenn brings over two decades of experience in nursing and leadership roles. He previously served for 11 years as Senior Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital in Lexington, Virginia.
“Aaron is a seasoned nursing executive with a deep commitment to patient-centered care, rural health, and developing strong nursing teams,” said Ashe Memorial Hospital CEO Brian Yates. “We are excited to welcome Aaron to our team and look forward to his leadership.”
Glenn’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in social work and psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; an Associate of Science in nursing from Colorado Mountain College; and a Master of Science in nursing administration from Excelsior College in Albany, New York.
He began his career working with troubled youth before moving into Emergency Medical Services and later transitioning into nursing. Reflecting on his path into the profession, Glenn said: “Nursing goes beyond just taking care of the patient. We can make an impact in someone’s outcome. We may not be able to change the diagnosis, but we can positively impact their experience. That’s my greatest take away.”
In his new position at Ashe Memorial Hospital, Glenn aims to ensure that nurses have the necessary resources and support to deliver quality care. “When you work in a small community, the people that you’re taking care of are the individuals that you cross paths with on a daily basis,” he said. “We’re changing lives, and we want our nurses and care givers to be the best at their jobs that they can possibly be. It’s easy to recognize that the impact of the care inside the hospital on the community is enormous.”
Outside work, Glenn enjoys spending time with his wife Heather—who is also a nurse—and their four children aged 15-19. He also plays men’s lacrosse and looks forward to returning frequently to an area where he spent many family vacations.
Ashe Memorial Hospital has been serving Ashe County and nearby communities for more than 80 years as a fully accredited 25-bed critical access hospital offering emergency, elective, rehabilitation, and preventive health services.
